Mariners Quay is our award winning community development of over 100 cutting-edge sustainable homes built alongside the river Usk.

A high profile development for the Group, Mariners Quay is the result of a partnership with Newport City Council, Newport Unlimited and the Leadbitter Group.

The homes include a mix of

4 bedroom houses
3 bedroom houses
2 bedroom houses
1 and 2 bedroom apartments

In addition to creating affordable sustainable housing, together with our partners we worked with training organisations such as Newport Construction Initiative and the Youth Construction Trust to create real training opportunities for local people.

Highbury House, Blackwood

On behalf of Charter, we re-developed Highbury House to provide supported intermediate accommodation for 8 people over the age of 18 years who have already begun their recovery from alcohol or drug misuse.

The accommodation will be staffed 24 hours, 7 days a week and will comprise a Staff Office, Utility Room, Staff bedroom with en-suite, Staff/Visitor WC, 3 ground floor bedsits including 1 suitable for a wheelchair user, Counselling room, Common room and 5 bedrooms.

Cwrt Dyffryn, Abercarn

23 contemporary one and two bedroom apartments built on the old Library site in Abercarn. The homes are a mixture of affordable home ownership and intermediate rent and are managed by Fairlake.

Single Homeless Accommodation

Hales House is a supported living hostel developed in partnership with Torfaen County Borough Council and Solas (part of Seren Group). The facility provides 20 units of high quality accommodation for young homeless people in a safe and secure environment. The building includes sustainable features such as rainwater recycling and solar roof panels.

Ringland Regeneration

The redevelopment of the Ringland estate, includes the provision of 56 affordable homes for rent and home ownership, constructed over 2 phases. Developed in partnership with Newport City Council and Lovell, the project included full resident consultation and additional landscaping to open areas.

Prefab Bungalows Regeneration

Regeneration of the prefab estates included the replacement of 600 post-war bungalows for older people on 7 estates across Newport. Full community consultation took place, with every resident visited by the development team. This complex project undertaken on behalf of Newport Housing Trust was the largest social housing regeneration project in Wales and cost approx £35m over a 5 year programme.

Drybridge Gardens

Constructed within a Grade 2 Listed walled garden, this unique development of purpose built bungalows provides independent living for 6 people with profound physical disabilities. The design included a high level of sustainability, including recycled newspaper insulation, rainwater harvesting system and solar panels.

Winner – 2004 Royal Society of Architects in Wales award and awarded a Civic Trust ‘Mention’ in 2005.

Cefn Glas Housing with Extra Care

This innovative extra care housing scheme for Charter Housing, in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council, provides 42 self contained apartments, with care and support for older people. The concept includes an ‘indoor village’ providing a safe, secure environment and friendly atmosphere of a traditional neighbourhood.

Winner – ‘Best Independent Living Scheme ‘ national Pinders Healthcare Design Awards 2007.

Pencarn Village

32 sustainable homes and apartments attractively located adjacent to Tredegar House. External materials used are of high quality and in keeping with the area. All of the homes will be available for rent and affordable home ownership.

Empty Homes

Empty for a combined period of over 30 years, two properties were refurbished by Fairlake to provide high quality rental accommodation for local people. These refurbishments were undertaken as part of Newport County Council’s Empty Homes Strategy, bringing long-term, empty properties back into use for the benefit of the community.
